Storage Management
In Amazon S3, objects are stored in S3 buckets and further organized by prefixes and object tags. Stored data can than be easily reported on through S3 Inventory reports and generated daily or weekly. Features including S3 Versioning and S3 Replication allow for data version control and replication to protect against accidental deletions and meet compliance requirements.
Storage Classes
Data can be stored in different classes depending on how often the data will be accessed. Costs can be reduced by placing infrequently accessed and archival data in the S3 Standard-IA, S3 One Zone-IA, and archival storage classes. If access patterns are unpredictable, S3 Intelligent-Tiering can be utilized which automatically moves data between access tiers.
Data Protection
Different security features are available to block unauthorized users from having access to data with both server-side and client-side encryption supported. A couple of the features include S3 Block Public Access and S3 Object Ownership which allows all access to S3 buckets and objects to be cut off from the public and ownership to be given solely to the bucket owner while disabling Access Control Lists respectively.
Analytics
Get insights on object storage usage and activity on the account, bucket, and prefix level using S3 Storage Lens to better help protect data and reduce storage costs. Amazon S3 also allows you to query data stored in Amazon S3 withouth having to move data to a different analytics platform. It is also compatible with Amazon Athena and Amazon Redshift Spectrum, both analytics services that run SQL queries.
